you're a digital video or media creator, a day will come when
your hard drive storage systems max out. Those days are over.
DVvideo.com brings to you the ultimate solution for any media
creator, the DVvideo.com FireWire HotSwap Enclosure.
when you run out of space, use the HotSwap system to simply
swap in another standard IDE hard drive in a matter of seconds.
The HotSwap enclosure connects to your computer using FireWire(AKA
iLink, IEEE1394), the same connection used to attach your DV
the HotSwap system you don't have to sacrifice performance for
convenience. Use one drive to carry a video project. When the
drive fills up, simply buy another tray (for $29) and swap in
another drive for another project. Incorporating the second
generation Oxford 911 chipset, these enclosures don't slack
when it comes to performance. The HotSwap enclosure achieves
a blazing fast 35 MB/s transfer rate in real world tests,
because it uses some of the same technology found in the DVvideo.com
Premium Hard Drive Enclosure. Never before has this much speed
been combined with this much convenience at a price that is
up is easy: plug the enclosure into your computer, pop in almost
any IDE hard drive into the tray, slide the tray into the enclosure,
and turn the key. A neon indicator ensures that the drive is
installed properly. That's it. Our enclosures autoconfigure
the drive, so there is no need to mess around with the jumper
settings. It doesn't get any easier than this. To view our Easy

data is important, so why trust it to cheap enclosure? DVvideo.com's
line of FireWire enclosures are built to be premium enclosures
that can't be beat. Not only are they the fastest FireWire enclosures
on the market, they also use higher quality components. Here
are some of the things that set DVvideo.com HotSwap enclosure

cooling system. This helps the hard drives remain cooler. When
your hard drive runs cooler it can last longer and run faster.
Our engineers constantly test and tweak the enclosure systems
to race towards having the fastest and most reliable enclosures
on the market. The results? Using the second generation chips,
DVvideo.com Hard Drive enclosures scream along at a 35MB/s sustained
transfer rate*. The bridge board we designed, and the chips
we use allow us to achieve speeds faster than any other competing
enclosure. Don't be stuck with a FireWire enclosure that crawls
along at 15 MB/s transfer rate, use an enclosure that achieves
speeds FireWire was designed for.
Instead of buying additional enclosures, the HotSwap system
allows you to purchase additional trays for swapping in and
out hard drives. With trays priced at $29, you will see immediate

should I buy a FireWire enclosure?
you are doing video editing, you need unlimited fast storage.
With DV video sucking up 3.6 MB per second, your hard drive
storage space can become limited very fast. Just capturing 10
minutes of video would take up about 2.1 Gigs of storage. If
you wanted to add a filter to your video, you would need another
2.1 Gigs to render the file out. That means you would need a
total of 4.2 Gigs of storage to edit 10 minutes of video. As
you can see, even if you are a novice video editor, there is
a need for additional affordable storage that is fast enough
to handle video. Luckily there is.
is not just for hooking up DV video cameras, it can also be
used to hook up Hard Drives with plug and play ease. In the
past, the FireWire enclosures could only maintain speeds that
were barely fast enough for video. Compared to the internal
hard drive inside your computer, these speeds are very slow.
Additionally, because there are so many opportunities for data
interruptions, frames of video could be dropped because the
hard drive enclosure couldn't maintain the speed that was necessary
to capture all the frames of video. Speed is important. Finally,
it is available in a FireWire solution. The new DVvideo.com
Hard Drive Enclosures run at a sustained 35 MB/s. At these speeds,
you can capture and transfer video with ease.
easy is it to install?

In the event that your computer is so old that it doesn't already
have the standard drivers to support the drive, we have an easy
to use installer included with the enclosure for both Mac and
PC. If you still have problems, simply call 510.471.6442 and
ask the operator to transfer you to technical support.
support is excellent. Simply click on the support link. Once
there, you will find software updates, answers and explanation
to problems, as well as a phone number in the event that your
problem is not solved. We take customer service very seriously.
Unlike many other online companies, every technical support
call is given the same priority as a sales call. Our manufacturing
and support partner, Relax Systems, is a strong and established
company that has been in the external storage business for 20
years. You can feel confident in buying these products because
they are backed by a strong company.
do these products blow the competition away?
date, no true FireWire storage products exist for consumers.
What has been available in the past is an IDE hard drive that
has been thrown into a box with an IDE to FireWire converter
called a bridge.
product can only go as fast as the slowest part. The bottle
neck has been in the bridge, slowing the transfer rate to a
crawling 15MB/s per second.
is much faster than an external USB drive, but when compared
to an Internal IDE drive or UltraSCSI, it is quite slow.
new second generation bridges have significantly changed the
bottleneck. The new drives can obtain a sustained 35MB/s transfer
rate! And because these boxes are one of the first drives to
use the new bridges, it will be hard to find these speeds anywhere
else. The drives are easy to set up, faster than the competition,
and cheaper than SCSI solutions.
drive do you recommend for the enclosure?
we recommend the IBM 120 GB 180GXP, series drives.
In our experience, these drives have proven to be the most
reliable and have achieved the maximum
performance. With a three year warranty, high speeds, and the
lowest failure rate, the IBM drives are very hard to beat.
